I
built a roller coaster
and I have been riding it for years,
but as it coaxes onto the platform
creaking wood and steam
exhaling, exhausted
I step off barefoot
and I dance in the garden
in the middle of the night.
Still spinning from the ride,
still breathing from the rush,
still paying off the operator-
who watches me dance
under the dripping leaves.
My feet covered in mud.
My hair wet, my eyes wide.
My head spinning, my soul
My soul still with fear
Still waiting on the
platform…..
